Timo Burnham—Shadows Within Marketing Material

Author Timo Burnham commissioned me to put together some illustrations that he could use to market his recently-released book, Shadows Within

Timo asked for two illustrations: one of his character, Zash, humorously fighting off bandits while reading his own book; and another that parodies the format of another book-marketing meme, that features a goose interjecting a newly-released book.

Similarly to his last commission, Timo was alright with me drawing his characters in my preferred pseudo-manga art style. I also featured foes that are in various states of being defeated, so that we can tell that Zash has been at this for a while and is still going strong. I made sure to send Timo a transparent version of this image, so that he could repurpose it with image-editing software if he wished.

As for the meme commission, rather than using my preferred art style, I mimicked the way that the goose was depicted in the original meme. Since the aforementioned goose is from a videogame called "Untitled Goose Game," I depicted Zash as a human from said game: simplistic, featureless, and lineless. But instead of interjecting the book, he is shooting out his green lightening powers to reveal it instead.

When compared with other authors' marketing strategies, it is safe to say that these advertisements are unlike most—which I would say, only makes them more intriguing.
